Accepting applications for an Indigenous Board Member

The sea to sky thrivers is seeking an indigenous board member

The Sea to Sky Thrivers is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacancy on its Board of Directors for the position of Indigenous Director at Large. The Board is currently comprised of 8 members with backgrounds in health, education, corporate training and sustainability.

We are seeking a dedicated self-identified Indigenous person with experience working to improve the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

About the Sea to Sky Thrivers

The Sea to Sky Thrivers Society was created in response to the shockingly high prevalence and growing diagnosis of chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes in Canada. The organization is dedicated to designing education, training and community building around real food – highly nutritious unprocessed whole foods that are proven to radically improve health, reverse chronic disease and therefore reduce dependency on medication.

Now in its fifth year, the Sea to Sky Thrivers Society (a registered charity) has already delivered several nutritional programs in Mount Currie, Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton and the Vancouver area in British Columbia. The education is focused on preventing, treating and reversing chronic degenerative illnesses (or lifestyle diseases) using food as medicine.

Current Priorities

In addition to updating its three-year strategic plan, the Board will oversee the planning and execution of the 22 Million Strong Tour across Canada, launching in the summer of 2021. As part of our founder Nicolette Richer’s PhD research through Royal Roads University, she will stop in towns and cities in each province to connect with and work alongside BIPOC community leaders, physicians, and youth to uncover barriers to food security, soil regeneration, and healthy eating and living.

General Responsibilities of Board Members

This volunteer position includes access to an Eat Real to Heal course and consult with Nicolette. The term of the Indigenous Board member is two years. The successful candidate is expected to attend Board meetings (at least four meetings per year) as well as participate on one of the Committees or Task Forces reporting to the Board. Due to COVID-19, all Board and Committee meetings will continue to be virtual until it is determined that in-person meetings are safe.

Qualifications

Candidates interested in serving as the Indigenous Director at Large should self-identify as First Nations, and have a working knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis health services and challenges. Ideally, the candidate will have experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities as well as experience working with National Indigenous Organizations and Governments. Past experience serving on a board and knowledge of the workings of a board from a good governance perspective will be considered assets.

Application Process

A completed letter of interest along with a resume should be forwarded by email to Nicolette Richer, Executive Director, by Wednesday, March 31, 2023, at ed@seatoskythrivers.ca. Please include your contact information.
